The Other A-Word - Feminist and Atheist Podcast

Ms. Ashley and I are so excited to bring you the first episode of The Other A-Word Podcast! For our inaugural episode, we got in a couple jokes at Jerry DeWitt’s expense, praised some midterm results, bitched about some others, and generally had a blast. We promise it’ll get more structured as we go! Continue the conversation:Facebook0TwitterDiggTumblr0Bufferemail

Why the “No True Christian / Muslim” Fallacy Is Dangerous

The Other A-Word avatarPosted on June 23, 2016 by AngieJune 23, 2016

I would hope that anyone who knows me well enough to be reading this also knows me well enough to understand that I am not a racist. I would also hope that everyone understands that criticizing a belief and/or belief system is not hateful or racist. “I hate Christians” is not the same thing as “I believe Christianity as a religion has some troublesome ideas in its holy book that encourage bad behavior on the part of a not-at-all-tiny segment of its adherents.” The same goes for Muslims vs. Islam. Please keep those things in mind as you read the rest … Continue reading →

All the Omnis: Why God Can’t Be Omni-Everything

The Other A-Word avatarPosted on May 10, 2016 by AngieMay 9, 2016
Artist Hans Baldung made sure to include a mother and baby in his depiction of flood victims.

Once credited to Epicurus (however, credited by a Christian refuting him and, so far, unsubstantiated), this paradox has always interested me: Either God wants to abolish evil and cannot, Or he can, but does not want to, Or he cannot and does not want to. If he wants to, but cannot, he is impotent. If he can, but does not want to, then he is wicked. If he neither can, nor wants to, he is both powerless and wicked. Most Christians believe that their god is all-powerful (omnipotent), everywhere all the time (omnipresent), knows everything (omniscient), and is always good (omnibenevolent). The … Continue reading →

Church-State Separation: Still a Big Deal

The Other A-Word avatarPosted on March 21, 2016 by AngieJune 23, 2016

Even a couple of years ago, if you’d asked me whether church-state separation was a serious issue facing this country, I’d have smugly told you of course not – this is basic American Government 101, right? I mean, everyone knows church is to stay out of government and vice versa, right? Oh, brothers and sisters, my eyes have been opened over the past couple of years. If, like me, you take it as given that those in government and schools know there’s supposed to be a boundary between public institutes and church, this post should be enlightening. If you already … Continue reading →

Nonsense from the Bible Series: Satan and His Followers Rebel

The Other A-Word avatarPosted on March 9, 2016 by AngieMarch 9, 2016
Nonsense from the Bible: Satan as the Best Salesman of All Time

Note: This post is the first in my weekly series, Nonsense from the Bible. I’ll be talking about some Bible stories and how they either didn’t make sense to me or nudged me that much further toward my eventual atheism. Would love feedback – keep going with this? Ditch it? Hit me up in the comments!   Here’s something I have never understood: If God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving – and if heaven is such a super-fantastic place to be – why would anyone want to leave? The Lucifer story has never made sense to me, and trying to … Continue reading →

"No, not yet."
"Well, he's an..."
"...Asshole?"
"No, the other a-word. He's an atheist!"
