Some Thoughts on Believing Non-Believers

The Other A-Word avatarPosted on March 4, 2016 by AngieNovember 18, 2018

I’m back, brothers and sisters! Better late than never, eh? I’ve been busy in my absence, at least: You’ll notice there’s now a shiny new subscription box in the sidebar (hint, hint), and I planned out an actual editorial calendar and stuff. There’s method to my madness now! Here’s how this blog’s posting schedule looks for now: Mondays, I will talk about something newsy, from an atheist standpoint. A lot of these posts will address church/state separation and how it’s being fought – and defended. Wednesdays I’ll tackle specific Bible stories or tenets of faith and why I no longer … Continue reading →

Why Are Atheists Annoyed By “I’ll Pray for You”?

The Other A-Word avatarPosted on February 15, 2016 by AngieFebruary 15, 2016
"I'll pray for you, Richard Dawkins."

Last Saturday, evolutionary biologist and well-known atheist Richard Dawkins had a minor stroke, forcing him to postpone a couple of speaking engagements. He was reported to be at home already early in the week, and expected to make a full recovery. And then, a couple of predictable Twitter kerfuffles happened: Continue the conversation:Facebook0TwitterDiggTumblr0Bufferemail

Religious Hypocrisy: Another Step Down the Apostasy Trail

The Other A-Word avatarPosted on February 12, 2016 by AngieFebruary 12, 2016
Definition of "hypocrite"

When I was a kid and we started learning about slavery, and then the civil rights movement, it never occurred to me that MY family could include any racists. We were all good people. Christian people. Minnesota-nice people. Slavery was for the South (a fuzzy term I thought of as “down there”). Unfortunately, we all have to grow up and, along with that maturing, we find out what our families are really like. This discovery is not always a happy one. At first, it was just my step-family. My mom’s second husband (who she married when I was in 8th … Continue reading →

I’m out today. Please check out this atheist take on angels.

The Other A-Word avatarPosted on February 10, 2016 by AngieFebruary 12, 2016

Having a supremely stressful week. In lieu of my own work, I’m going to send you over to Dave Hitt‘s blog, where you can read about some excellent reasons you shouldn’t want to be an angel after you die. Back Friday, brothers and sisters. Continue the conversation:Facebook0TwitterDiggTumblr0Bufferemail

Why “Nice Atheist” Doesn’t Equal “Doormat Atheist”

The Other A-Word avatarPosted on February 8, 2016 by AngieFebruary 8, 2016
Angry atheist

So far, I’ve put some work into being polite on this blog. My goal is to remove the stigma from the word “atheist,” and to that end I feel polite discourse is important. HOWEVER. That’s a big “however,” and it’s here I may lose some of you who are still believers. I hope that you’ll hear me out before dismissing me, or heading to the comments to light the blog on fire. You see, I feel I need to clarify one point. I believe in being civil with individual believers, to the extent that they aren’t pushing their religion into … Continue reading →

"So, have you met that new guy, Greg?"

"Well, he's an..."
"...Asshole?"
"No, the other a-word. He's an atheist!"
*gasp*
